Our Last Chance
It breaks my heart to post this. I've been praying for a miracle but Baxter is getting sicker. Baxter is still with us. He is a fighter and he's not ready to give up & we're not ready to give up on him. We took him back to the vet today and they gave him more fluids, this time a different kind with more electrolytes. His belly was a bit swollen and the vet drained fluid out of it. He said that Baxter is leaking out of his vascular system and this is caused by him not eating, not getting enough protein. So they gave him more sub-q fluids and sent him home with some special creamy food that we will hand feed him until he is strong enough to eat on his own again.
The vet thinks that he's getting over whatever he was sick with but is just too weak so the hope is that A) the fluids will perk him up enough to tolerate the hand feedings and that B) he will bounce back from this once he's getting enough nutrients and hydration again. The Dr. actually seemed pretty confident that Baxter can come back from this and make a full recovery. Praying with this works.
