Hand Feeding Wet Food W/ Syringe
Cheri was having some trouble with her nipples so we had to take the adopted litter out of her room for a couple days to let her heal. It had appeared that one nipple was getting an infection and one nipple had been completely trapped under matted fur. The vet cut the fur off and the nipple underneath wasn't in good shape. She's nursing again but she and Tanner have a cold now so we're still hand feeding the babies to minimize their exposure to illness.
I'll write more later about upper respiratory infection & conjunctivitis in cats. I've had a lot of questions about this topic with many people wanting to know what they can do to treat it at home. So stay tuned!
We had used a syringe in the past to hand feed wet/canned cat food but it was difficult. The food is thick which makes it hard to get the syringe to suck it up. Today, Foster Daddy had a great idea to remove the plunger and pack the food into the open end, then replace the plunger. Of course now we don't know why we never thought of that sooner! Total 'duh' moment... This could be helpful if your kittens are having a hard time learning to eat solids or eating off of a plate. Hopefully this will be helpful for someone!
We're letting Twinkle and all 8 babies roam freely through the house quite a bit now and it's going well. These kittens are SO playful! Twinkle is, for the most part, getting along with our own cats. The 8 kittens in litter #9 now have names. The 4 boys: Pepper (brown collar), Copper (light brown collar), Link (light blue collar) & Gannon (green collar). The 4 girls are: Sunshine (yellow collar), Taylor (red collar), Epona (gray collar) & Aqua (light green w/ line collar).
In the 2nd vid, This is Twinkle nursing 7 of her 8 kittens. The 8th kitten was sleeping. It's such an amazing thing to see... 7 kittens lined up and latched on all at once! Even though it's exhausting and she wants to wean them, she's still letting them nurse and get some lovin's. What a good Mama!
