Conjunctivitis ~ How To Spot It
Some of our foster kittens are still sick and a few have really bad conjunctivitis. This is what it looks like. Their inner eyelids get red and swollen and they will have 'teary eyes' or gooey discharge.
You can start by washing your hands and use a soft, wet & warm washcloth to clean their eyes. If the discharge has hardened, you'll need to gently swipe a wet thumb over the crusty part until it becomes loose enough to wipe away. Wash your hands again when you're done and remember that conjunctivitis is contagious to your other cats!
If your kitty's eyes get this bad, you'll want to take them to the vet to get eye drops and/or eye ointment and possibly oral antibiotics. I will be writing more about conjunctivitis later as I've had a lot of questions about how it so stay tuned!
This vid shows you what it looks like and briefly goes over the treatment. Please remember I'm not a vet! These kittens were under the care of the shelters amazing clinic vet & vet techs.
